Castell de Maús rises majestically atop Suera Alta hill at 582 meters, dominating the valley below in Sueras, Castellón province. Built during the 12th century under Islamic rule, this fortress protected multiple Muslim settlements that eventually developed into modern Sueras. The castle's most striking feature is its abrupt silhouette, one of the most remarkable in the Espadán mountain range. Though in ruins, substantial sections of the fortification remain visible, including portions of walls and the lower segments of what was once the main tower. King Jaime I later donated the castle to his son Pedro in 1260, marking its transition through medieval political history.
