Caverswall Castle is a Grade I listed 13th-century moated castle set in 21 acres of Staffordshire countryside near Stoke-on-Trent, with historical connections to notable residents including the Wedgwood family and Charles Darwin. The fortress features medieval architecture including stone walls, towers, ornate fireplaces, intricate woodwork, and stained glass windows throughout its rooms. Alton Castle is a Grade I listed Gothic Revival fortress originally built in the 12th century as a stone stronghold overlooking the River Churnet valley in Staffordshire. Knypersley Tower, also known as Warder's Tower, is a Grade II listed gamekeeper's cottage constructed in 1828-29 as a red sandstone miniature castle on the banks of Knypersley Pool in Stoke-on-Trent. Built by landowner John Bateman to house the estate gamekeeper and serve as a landscape ornament, this romantic structure was designed to guard the property's deer herd and waterfowl from poachers. Though occupied until the 1950s, the tower now appears on English Heritage's Buildings At Risk Register and provides sanctuary for several endangered bat species, representing a unique example of 19th-century estate architecture and wildlife conservation.
