Fortí del Maurici is a 19th-century military fortification constructed in 1838 during Spain's First Carlist War, located at the summit of Serra de Sant Maurici in Balsareny, Bages. Built with large stone blocks emphasizing defensive solidity, the fort features a roughly square floor plan with three circular towers at three corners, a distinctive design representing notable military architecture of the Carlist period. Small defensive openings and loopholes provided covering fire for garrison troops, though the construction was never fully completed. Despite deteriorating ruins, the fort maintains designation as a Cultural Asset of National Interest, preserving significant historical value as a testament to 19th-century Spanish military engineering and the civil conflicts that shaped Catalan architecture.
