Holsteinborg Castle is a Renaissance-style manor house located southeast of Skælskør, built between 1598 and 1651 by the Trolle family and renamed by the Holstein family, who have owned it for over 300 years. The impressive main building comprises four interconnected two-storey wings surrounded by a moat, showcasing symmetrical proportions characteristic of Renaissance architecture. The castle overlooks an extensive undulating park descending toward Holsteinborg Cove, and it gained fame as a frequent destination for Hans Christian Andersen during the 19th century. Private access requires advance permission, making it one of Denmark's most beautifully situated estates.
