Boldt Castle is a magnificent 120-room Rhineland-style castle on Heart Island in the Thousand Islands region of New York, built beginning in 1900 by George C. Boldt, proprietor of the famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan. The six-story stone structure features intricate architectural elements including tunnels, a powerhouse, Italian gardens, a drawbridge, and decorative towers, constructed by 300 skilled stonemasons, carpenters, and artists. Though construction halted in 1904 following Louise Boldt's death, the castle was later restored and now welcomes visitors seasonally from mid-May through mid-October via tour boat or private watercraft. Ossining Castle, known as 'Elda,' was built between 1925 and 1927 by David Abercrombie, co-founder of Abercrombie & Fitch, on 60 acres in Ossining, New York. The English Cottage-style mansion was constructed from steel, locally sourced granite, and fieldstone, with its name deriving from the first letters of the Abercrombie children's names.
