Fort Schuyler is a historic granite fortification completed in 1845 on the Throggs Neck peninsula in the Bronx. Built in the French pentagonal style, it served as a Union military installation during the Civil War before being converted into SUNY Maritime College's primary campus in 1938. The fort's distinctive Connecticut granite construction and elegant military architecture represent a significant example of 19th-century American fortress design. Today it houses the Maritime Industry Museum, blending its strategic military heritage with modern maritime education.
