Buckenham Castle sits adjacent to the villages of Old and New Buckenham in Norfolk, built by William d'Aubigny, a follower of William the Conqueror, around 1140 during King Stephen's reign. The castle replaced an earlier Aubigny family fortification and eventually passed to the Knyvet family in the 15th century, with notable occupation by Sir John Knyvet by 1465. Demolished in 1649 by Sir Philip Knyvet likely on Parliament's orders following the English Civil War, only remnants of earthworks and traces of the stone curtain wall survive today. Currently private property, Buckenham Castle represents a significant Norman heritage site in East Anglia and cannot be visited.
