Castillo de Almenara is a 12th-century Almohad defensive fortress located near Peñaflor in Seville, positioned strategically along the SE-140 motorway connecting Peñaflor to La Puebla de los Infantes. Seized by Christian forces under King Alfonso VIII in 1189, it subsequently alternated between Muslim and Christian control before being definitively conquered in 1238. The castle features a rectangular enclosure measuring 70 by 20 meters, with masonry walls 1.65 meters wide and a distinctive tower of homage with a square base that transforms into an octagonal shape. Currently on private property in a perilous state of preservation, the castle requires owner permission to visit and represents an important example of medieval military architecture spanning the Almohad and Christian periods.
