Castell de València d'Àneu, also known as Castell de Pallars, stands at 1,108 meters altitude in Alt Àneu, Pallars Sobirà, commanding the valley of Esterri d'Àneu between the Noguera Pallaresa and Riu de la Bonaigua rivers. Constructed around the 11th-12th centuries during Count Sunyer I's reign, it was the last stronghold where the independent Comtat de Pallars flew its flag. The complex features a walled perimeter extending approximately 2,500 meters, forming the upper fortress enclosure and defining the Counts' territorial power. Now substantially ruined with only scattered remains, the site remains accessible via a scenic 12.5-kilometer hiking trail and represents significant medieval Catalan heritage.
