CASTLES MONFORTE DE LEMOS

Torre da Homenaxe del Castelo de Lemos stands as the enduring symbol of the powerful Lemos family in Monforte, Galicia, representing the last significant remnant of the 12th-century Castle of San Vicente. This four-storey homage tower reaches 30 metres in height with walls up to 3.5 metres thick, its nearly square layout measuring 13 by 12 metres dating from the 13th to 15th centuries. The Queen's Window on the third floor showcases distinctive trefoil arches, while a wooden staircase provides access to panoramic views from the summit. An interior museum chronicles the tower's history and the various kingdoms that occupied the region, complemented by period paintings and medieval artifacts.

Castelo de Monforte rises prominently above the Galician town of Monforte de Lemos, its origins tracing to the 10th century when it served critical defensive functions.
