Castillo de La Iruela crowns a rocky spur called El Picacho within the natural park of Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas. This fortress of Andalusí origin dominates the town of La Iruela, located just 1.5 kilometers northeast of Cazorla. The castle comprises three walled enclosures crowned with towers, constructed as an Almohad military hub. Erected to the status of villa in 1378, La Iruela became notable as a filming location for the television series Curro Jiménez. Visitors encounter steep steps leading to breathtaking panoramic views of olive groves and mountain landscapes from limestone cliffs.
