Castillo de Jumilla stands prominently on a hilltop above the town of Jumilla in Murcia, Spain, with origins tracing back to Bronze Age fortifications. The site was later fortified by Romans in 190 BC, then developed into a Muslim fortress during the Almohad period before being conquered and rebuilt by Ferdinand III of Castile in 1241. The castle was extensively reconstructed in 1462 by Juan Pacheco, Marquis of Villena, to strengthen defenses against Moorish attacks. This small but thoughtfully restored castle offers visitors an accessible glimpse into medieval Spanish frontier history, with exhibits presented in both Spanish and English.
