Castillo Medieval de Cañete la Real, also called Castillo Hins-Canit, sits at 800 meters altitude on a rocky hilltop and represents one of the most important fortifications during Christian-Granadian conflicts. Construction began in the 9th century and continued through the 16th century, with the Arabic name Qanit referring to the water channels that characterized the area. The three-sector complex includes entrance areas, residential and storage zones, and a lordly section dominated by the Tower of Homage featuring three bodies and a terrace. Fully restored with an Interpretation Center housed in the Tower of Homage, the castle welcomes free admission and stands as a testament to medieval Andalusian military architecture.
