The Ruinas Castillo de Alpuente crowns a rocky mass upon which the town of Alpuente sits in the Serranía region of Valencia province. Dating from the 10th century, this Muslim-origin fortress features archaeological remnants of Roman and Arab construction including reservoirs, cisterns, pools, and chambers. The best-preserved section is the Tower of the Weather Vane (Torre del Veleta), a stone tower maintaining approximately ten meters in height despite repeated demolitions. Though largely in ruins since the mid-19th century, the castle remains accessible to visitors free of charge and preserves evidence of reconstructions during the 14th-century War of the Two Pedros and 19th-century Carlist Wars.
