CASTLES LA CHAPELLE-SUR-ERDRE

Castle Gascherie, located on the banks of the Erdre River near Nantes, represents Renaissance Breton aristocratic architecture from the 15th and 16th centuries. Built by Pierre Landais and once the birthplace of the renowned Huguenot captain François de La Noue, the castle was deeply restored in the 19th century by architect Jules de la Morandière. Registered as a historical monument in 2001, the castle remains a private property whose elegant Renaissance facades and restored rooflines can be admired from Route de la Gascherie.

The Château de La Desnerie in La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, Loire-Atlantique, represents a layered architectural heritage spanning from the 15th century. Originally held by the Leet family since the late 14th century, it passed to the La Roche-Saint-André family in 1552, who substantially enlarged the estate and added a private chapel in the 1620s-1630s. In the 18th century, further expansion included the western wing designed by architect Jean-Baptiste Ceineray. Listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments since 1985, this private estate reflects the evolution of noble residential architecture through multiple periods, preserving its historical interiors and gardens as a significant example of regional patrimony.
