CASTLES FUJAIRAH

Al Hail Fort, also known as Al Hayl Castle, is a historic fortification located in the Al Hail Mountains southwest of Fujairah City in the United Arab Emirates. Constructed primarily from mud brick and plaster in the traditional Arabian architectural style, the fort dates to either 1830 or 1932 depending on historical sources, serving as both a defensive stronghold and a royal summer residence. The complex features multiple structures including a fortress, residential compound, and majlis, reflecting the importance of the site within the ruling family's holdings. Today, the fort stands as a testament to Emirati heritage, showcasing the craftsmanship and defensive strategies of its era, approximately a 15-minute drive from Fujairah city center.

Al Bithnah Fort is a historic double-story fortification constructed between 1745 and 1800 from rock, coral, and mudbrick, located in the village of Al Bithnah approximately 13 kilometers from Fujairah city. Built in response to Wahhabi invasions to protect crucial trade routes in eastern Emirate territory, the fort features a distinctive conical-shaped main structure with three floors and a smaller tower on its northern side. Eight circular openings positioned at the upper sections served as defensive cannon and rifle positions, enabling guards to monitor all directions simultaneously. Nestled between mountain ranges and overlooking lush agricultural oases in Wadi Ham, the fort remains accessible by bus or car with no entrance fee, preserving its architectural heritage for visitors.

Dibba Al Fujairah Fort is a historic 16th-century coastal fortress located on a rocky outcrop in the town of Dibba Al-Fujairah, standing as one of the oldest forts constructed in the United Arab Emirates. Built with traditional materials including mud bricks, palm wood, and stone, the structure features majestic high walls and towers that have been carefully restored in recent years while preserving its original charm and authentic appearance. The fort played a pivotal role in the defense and administration of the region, serving as a strategic military post and residence for the ruling family. Beyond its historical significance, the fort functions as a cultural hub frequently hosting local events and exhibitions showcasing traditional Emirati arts and crafts, allowing visitors to engage intimately with the region's rich cultural heritage.

Dibba Al Hisn Castle is a historic fortress built on the remains of a 17th-century Portuguese structure, originally constructed by Grand Commander Rui Freire de Andrade in 1624 to serve as a strategic defense position on the Arabian coast. The castle was destroyed and rebuilt by Arab forces after they conquered the region in 1648, evolving into a two-storey square main building topped with pyramid-shaped elements and defensive openings for monitoring and protection. Flanking the main structure are two circular towers standing approximately 7 metres high with lengths of about 5 metres each, while the interior courtyard contains multiple rehabilitated rooms that once accommodated guests and important visitors. Located just a block from the Corniche in Dibba Al-Hisn, a semi-exclave of Sharjah, the fort has been carefully restored to preserve its historical character and now stands as one of the area's most popular attractions for history enthusiasts.
