Shusha Castle is a fortress complex surrounding the historical center of Shushi, perched atop the scenic Karabakh mountains in Azerbaijan's Nagorno-Karabakh region. Founded by Panah Ali Khan in 1750, the fortress features striking Arran-style architecture with three gates, including the main Ganja Gate facing north. The castle served as the political and military heart of the Karabakh khanate and, after Ottoman conquest in 1463, was expanded to meet new defensive requirements. Declared the Cultural Capital of Azerbaijan in 2020, Shusha Castle remains one of the finest examples of Azerbaijani architectural heritage, symbolizing the nation's historical resilience and artistic tradition.
