Fort Williams Park is a 90-acre historic site in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, home to the iconic Portland Head Light, constructed in 1791 at the directive of George Washington. The park encompasses the decommissioned United States Army post Fort Williams, which operated during World War I and World War II, along with the 1853 Goddard Mansion ruins. Situated at scenic 1000 Shore Road, the park offers numerous gardens, walking trails, picnic areas, the Portland Head Light Museum, and attractions for families including a children's play area and an off-leash dog walking area. The site attracts nearly one million visitors annually.

Fort Negley in Nashville was the largest inland fort constructed during the American Civil War, built atop St. Cloud Hill by Union forces between August and December 1862. Over 2,700 laborers, predominantly enslaved and free African Americans, constructed the fortification. The fort played a significant military role during the Battle of Nashville in December 1864. Following restoration by the Works Progress Administration in 1936, the site reopened as a public park in 2004 and earned UNESCO Site of Memory designation in 2019—one of only five in the United States.

Fort King George State Historic Site in Darien marks the first English fortification on the Georgia coast, built in 1721 by Colonel John "Tuscarora Jack" Barnwell under orders from King George. From 1721 to 1727, the fort served as the southernmost British outpost in North America. The garrison endured severe hardships from disease, Spanish and Indian threats, and the harsh coastal environment; approximately 140 officers and men died during its occupation. The modern site features a reconstructed cypress blockhouse, barracks, guardhouse, and palisades, alongside a museum covering Native American history, Spanish missions, and Darien's later role as a major seaport.
