Piatt Castle Mac-A-Cheek in West Liberty, Ohio was built between 1864 and 1871 by Abram S. Piatt, a Civil War veteran and farmer who constructed the three-story Gothic-style residence using stone and wood processed at the family sawmill. The castle features spectacular towers, spacious interiors, and gorgeous gardens, with rich intricate woodwork, painted ceilings, and innovative indoor water closets—a luxurious feature for its era. Part of the twin Piatt Castles built by brothers Donn and Abram, Mac-A-Cheek has been open for public tours since 1912 and remains family-owned and operated as a historic house museum.
