Fort Preble is a historic military installation built in 1808 on the shores of Casco Bay in South Portland, Maine. Named for Commodore Edward Preble, this second-system fortification served as an "embargo fort" and remained active through major American wars including the War of 1812 and the Civil War. The fort is now home to Southern Maine Community College's 80-acre campus, which features two beaches, a historic lighthouse, and a scenic granite breakwater.
