Duntulm Castle is a shattered 15th-century stronghold with 17th-century ranges in a spectacular cliff-top location on the northwest coast of the Trotternish peninsula, roughly 24 miles north of Portree on the Isle of Skye. Originally an Iron Age broch and Pictish fort, it later became a Viking stronghold before serving as a fortress for the MacLeods and then the MacDonalds. The castle consists of a ruined tower with courtyard remains and commands impressive views overlooking the sea toward the Outer Hebrides. Renowned as one of Scotland's most haunted locations, Duntulm is said to harbor multiple restless spirits, including the ghost of Hugh MacDonald who was imprisoned there after his failed assassination plot. The site is currently fenced due to structural instability but remains visually accessible to visitors.
