CASTLES PENZANCE

Bosigran Castle is an Iron Age promontory fort perched dramatically on the cliffs of Far West Cornwall near Penzance. The site is defended by a distinctive thick stone wall running 120 meters long with a central entrance, constructed without external ditches. Unusually well-preserved for its type, the fort overlooks the unspoiled Bosigran Cove and offers breathtaking coastal views. The challenging coastal path leads past the historic Carn Galver engine house, where visitors may spot seals along the rocky shoreline. The site reflects Iron Age settlement patterns from roughly the 6th century BC to the mid-1st century AD.

Kenidjack Cliff Castle is a substantial Iron Age promontory fort positioned at the southernmost tip of the Penwith peninsula near Penzance. The site features remarkable triple-ditch defenses built with granite rocks, particularly well-preserved on the northern side where their original construction remains evident beneath vegetation. Located along the coastal path between St Just and Botallack, the castle sits amid landscape rich with industrial heritage, including mining engine houses clinging to sheer cliffs and Bronze Age burial cairns. Easy access via a small stile provides visitors with views across dramatic coastal terrain and archaeological remains including ancient hut circles.
