Someries Castle represents a significant milestone in English architectural history as one of the earliest brick structures in the nation, built by Sir John Wenlock in the mid-15th century. The remaining upstanding ruins include a distinctive gatehouse built around 1448, featuring two semi-octagonal bastions flanking its entrance passage, plus a chapel erected in the 1460s. Located near Peter's Green in Luton, Bedfordshire, the castle stands as a magnate's residence from the Wars of the Roses era, its walls surviving to an estimated height of 10 metres despite losing its roof. Though now surrounded by modern development, the site remains accessible and offers tangible evidence of 15th-century domestic and military architecture.
