Barr Castle near Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire is a late medieval tower house standing as a ruin on a low ridge to the south of the village. Constructed in the 15th or early 16th century by the Glen family, the four-storey tower house features coursed rubble construction rising from a vaulted basement to a wall walk supported by continuous corbels. The castle passed to the Hamiltons of Ferguslie at the end of the 16th century, remaining with them until the late 18th century when they abandoned it for a newer mansion. Though privately owned and not open to the public, the ruins remain visible from the A760 road and are accessible to enthusiasts via a nearby cycle path, offering architectural details including window openings and gun ports that reveal its medieval defensive character.
