Ardross Castle is a 14th-century fortification located above a low cliff overlooking the Firth of Forth near St Monans in Fife, believed to have been originally built by Sir William Dishington, Sheriff of Fife, who also arranged the construction of St Monans Church for King David II in the mid-1300s. The castle later passed to Sir William Scott of Elie in 1607 and subsequently to Sir William Anstruther at the end of the 17th century. Today its remains comprise two rectangular stone structures with vaulted basements, the more north-easterly thought to be the base of a small fortified tower house measuring approximately 37 feet by 29 feet. The ruins are freely accessible via the Fife Coastal Path, which passes directly through the castle remains.
