Kirby Muxloe Castle is a picturesque fortified manor house of brick begun in 1480 by William, Lord Hastings on the western fringes of Leicester, Leicestershire. Though construction was abandoned after Hastings' sudden execution in 1483, leaving the building incomplete, visitors today can admire the fine gatehouse, a complete corner tower, and decorative brickwork features including a boat motif, jug design, and Hastings' initials. Managed by English Heritage, the castle is surrounded by a picturesque moat and offers free entry to explore the grounds or guided expert commentary for a small fee, providing insight into 15th-century architecture and political intrigue.
