Roxburgh Castle is a ruined royal fortress overlooking the junction of the Tweed and Teviot rivers near Kelso in the Scottish Borders. Founded by King David I, it became one of Scotland's richest royal residences and burghs before 1296. The Scots destroyed the castle in 1460 after capturing it, and James II of Scotland was killed in the area. Today, fragmentary ruins covered in long grass and nettles remain on the grounds of Floors Castle, accessible only on foot through pastures.
