Urquhardt Castle's impressive ruins crown a rocky promontory on the banks of Loch Ness, 21 kilometres southwest of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. Originally fortified by the Picts in the 6th century and visited by Saint Columba, the castle developed through centuries of construction by the Durwards and Comyns from the 13th century onward. The massive stronghold was contested repeatedly between English and Scottish forces, the Scottish Crown, Clan MacDonald, and the Grant family before abandonment in the early 1600s. Today, visitors climb the Grant Tower for panoramic views across the loch and Great Glen, explore surviving gatehouse lower storeys and curtain wall remnants, and experience one of Scotland's most dramatic castle ruins set within stunning Highland scenery.

Inverness Castle Experience presents a modern, immersive attraction celebrating the stories, landscape, and cultural heritage of the Scottish Highlands. Aldourie Castle is the only inhabited castle on the shores of Loch Ness, set on a 500-acre private Highland estate seven miles southwest of Inverness. Dating from the 17th century, this Grade A Baronial castle sleeps up to 24 guests across 12 en-suite bedrooms and operates exclusively as a private hire venue. The estate encompasses formal gardens, woodland, wildflower meadows, and a private marina, with full staffing including daily housekeeping and in-house chefs preparing meals using estate-grown produce. Fort George is a masterpiece of 18th-century military architecture near Inverness, Scotland. Built over 22 years following the Battle of Culloden, this star-shaped fortress was designed by William Skinner and constructed by the Adam family. The distinctive layout encloses an area equivalent to five football pitches, with ramparts exceeding one kilometer in length. Today, visitors explore the Highlanders Museum—Scotland's largest regimental museum outside Edinburgh—period barrack rooms, a grand powder magazine, and a garrison chapel.
