Fishguard Fort is an 18th-century artillery fortification crowning the rocky promontory of Castle Point, overlooking Fishguard Harbour in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Built in 1781 following an attack by the American privateer ship Black Prince demanding ransom from townsfolk, the fort was constructed to prevent future maritime assaults. Armed with eight 9-pounder cannons, it gained historical prominence on 22 February 1797 when its garrison fired warning blanks to alert of a French invasion force—the last invasion attempt on mainland Britain. The garrison's actions successfully deterred the French from entering the harbour. Today, substantial ruins and several refurbished original cannons remain on the accessible historic site, which offers dramatic scenic views overlooking the harbour.
