Richard II later constructed a royal palace within the fortifications, and troops for the Battle of Agincourt expedition rallied here. During the Napoleonic Wars, the castle held up to 8,000 prisoners. English Heritage now manages this multilayered fortress, where visitors can climb the keep for views across the Solent.

Fort Fareham is a mid-19th century Palmerston Fort completed in 1868 as part of the strategic defences protecting Portsmouth Harbour. Located in Fareham, England, this Victorian military fortification was built between 1861 and 1868 at a cost of £104,557, serving as a crucial hinge between the forts on Portsdown Hill and those of the Gosport Advanced Line. Originally equipped with 7-inch and 64-pounder guns along with rifled howitzers, the fort played active roles during both World Wars before being sold to Fareham Urban District Council in 1965. The site has since undergone transformation into a modern business park, successfully blending its historic military heritage with contemporary commercial use while preserving its notable Victorian engineering.

Fort Wallington is a Victorian fortification built between 1861 and 1874 as part of Lord Palmerston's defence initiative for Portsmouth Harbour during the scare of potential French invasion. Constructed into a hillside with distinctive tooth-shaped central projection and faced with red brick, the fort exemplifies mid-19th century military architecture. Originally designed with advanced Victorian fortification features, most of the earthworks were removed or levelled during motorway construction, particularly for the M25. The Gorge Wall and Guard House remain as Grade II listed structures, now incorporated into an industrial estate, preserving evidence of this important chapter in Britain's coastal defence history.
