Falkland Palace is a Renaissance masterpiece in Fife now cared for by the National Trust for Scotland, featuring a richly documented history alongside exceptional gardens and one of Britain's oldest original real tennis courts. The palace gardens were designed by renowned landscape architect Percy Cane in the mid-20th century, creating the most complete example of his work in Scotland and one of the few surviving examples of his landscape designs in Britain. Visitors can explore the historic orchard with its living willow labyrinth, formal gardens ablaze with flowering shrubs and trees in spring, and a physic garden planted with fragrant Renaissance-era herbs set in the foundations of the former Great Hall. The palace and gardens are open seasonally from 1 March to 31 October, Monday to Saturday 11am–5pm and Sunday 1pm–5pm, with last admission at 4:30pm.
