Shurland Castle near Eastchurch on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, was constructed by Sir Thomas Cheney during the reign of Henry VIII, using materials partly sourced from Chilham Castle. The castle hosted a royal visit from King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn in 1532, becoming a notable residence of the Cheney family for decades. Following the English Civil War, most of the structure was demolished in 1650, leaving only the fortified gatehouse ruins standing today. In 2006, the Spitalfields Trust purchased the property and undertook restoration work, eventually converting the gatehouse into a private residence. The ruins represent a significant remnant of Tudor-era military architecture on the Isle of Sheppey.
