CASTLES DUNOON

Hafton Castle is a Category B listed country house completed in the late 18th century at Hunter's Quay near Dunoon, Scotland, overlooking Holy Loch with magnificent architectural features and beautiful ceilings designed by architect David Hamilton. The castle accommodates up to 42 guests across 19 en-suite bedrooms and offers a large heated indoor swimming pool, tennis court, snooker room, and spacious conservatory with terrace and gardens. Toward Castle, historically known as Lamont Castle, is a scenic 15th and 16th-century fortress ruin located approximately seven miles south-west of Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula. The castle features a ruined tower standing to parapet height with a 16th-century courtyard containing decorated arched gateways, hall, kitchen, gatehouse and bakehouse. A significant property of the Lamont family visited by Mary, Queen of Scots in 1563, the castle was besieged and captured by the Campbells in 1646, resulting in one of Scotland's bloodiest clan conflicts, the Dunoon Massacre, which claimed over two hundred Lamont lives.
