Dundrum Castle is a Norman fortress founded in 1177 by John de Courcy following his invasion of Ulster, standing prominently on a rocky hill in County Down, Northern Ireland. The castle commands fine views south over Dundrum Bay toward the Mourne Mountains, and was strategically built to control access into the Lecale barony. The site was visited by King John in 1210, who invested in minor works and garrison support. Despite changing hands multiple times during the 16th and 17th centuries, and being dismantled by Parliamentarians in 1652, the castle was eventually preserved as a historic monument and is now cared for by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency.
