Liverpool Castle is a remarkable early 20th-century replica of a 13th-century medieval castle, located in Lever Park near Rivington in Bolton. Commissioned in 1912 by Lord Leverhulme, founder of Lever Brothers, the construction remained incomplete after his death in 1925, lending the structure an authentically ruined appearance. Built of gritstone, the castle features a fortified gateway with flanking towers, three round corner towers, defensive curtain walls, and a Great Tower serving as the keep, along with a chapel and dining hall. Visitors can explore the towers, passages, and various chambers throughout the site, enjoying photography opportunities and connecting to nearby attractions like Lower Rivington Reservoir and Terraced Gardens. Access is free via a scenic tree-lined footpath.
