Castle of Zorita de los Canes-Alcazaba de Zorita stands on a rocky hilltop above the Tagus River in Guadalajara province, Castile-La Mancha, commanding a strategically important river passage. Originally ordered built in 852 by Muhammad I of Córdoba, the fortress retains its distinctive Moorish horseshoe arch entrance from this early period. Structured around two zones—one ecclesiastic and one military—and featuring stone walls adapted to the hillside contours, the castle passed through Christian hands after 1174 and remained in noble possession until the 18th century. Declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1931, this fortress bridges centuries of Iberian military and religious history.
