Castillo de Arribalavilla in Zalamea de la Serena, Badajoz, is a rectangular medieval fortress with four corner towers named Torre Mocha, Torre Oscura, Torre de la Higuera, and Torre del Homenaje. Likely of Islamic origin, the castle was rebuilt by the Order of Alcántara between 1232-1240, then substantially reformed during the 15th-16th centuries. Historical significance deepened when Juan de Zúñiga constructed an attached palace that attracted notable intellectuals including grammarian Antonio de Nebrija and astrologer Abasurto. Located within Zalamea's urban center at its highest point, the fortress now has residential structures attached to three sides, which affects views of the complete ensemble. Despite this integration into the townscape, it remains an important example of medieval military architecture shaped by centuries of Christian-Islamic architectural traditions.
