Castillo de Yunquera stands in Málaga province at the foot of the Sierra de las Nieves mountains. The original medieval fortress, ordered destroyed by the Catholic Monarchs in 1498, once dominated the town's highest hilltop. The Torre Vigía, constructed between 1808 and 1812, now represents the castle structure as a conical watchtower built during the War of Independence and later fully refurbished. This tower, standing approximately 500 metres from the village centre, serves as a reception centre for visitors to the natural park while maintaining its heritage significance. The location offers commanding views over the dramatic mountain landscape and reflects the town's layered history of Christian, Muslim, and military occupation.
