Castillo de Villalba de los Barros, also known as Castillo de la Vaguada, is a 15th-century fortress in the Tierra de Barros region of Badajoz, built on Almohad foundations visible within its structure. The castle was commissioned in 1397 by Goméz Suárez de Figueroa, count of Feria and master of Santiago, following his family's purchase of the town in 1395, and served as the residence of the counts of Feria until their relocation to Zafra. The quadrangular fortress features cylindrical towers at its angles and semi-cylindrical buttresses, with the imposing Tower of Homage dominating one wall, exemplifying late medieval military design. Recently recognized as a Cultural Heritage Site in 2026, the castle represents an important monument to the region's medieval nobility and defensive architecture.
