Castillo de los Condes de Nieva in Valverde de la Vera originated as a 13th-century defensive structure and was formally built in the 14th century by the first Lord of Valverde, with enhancements added during the 15th-century County of Nieva. This former residence of the Counts of Nieva evolved from a military fortress to a palatial dwelling, and today its preserved Keep Tower, partial walls, loopholes, and three towers integrated into the adjacent Church of Our Lady of Clear Springs testify to its layered history. Now serving as an auditorium for village festivities, the castle complex remains a focal point of cultural life in this Extremaduran locality located 150 kilometers from Cáceres.
