Castillo de Peñaflor occupies an eroded hilltop within the Bárdenas Reales in Valtierra, Navarra, built by King Sancho el Fuerte in the 13th century as a frontier fortification against Aragón and banditry. Local legend recounts that in the 15th century, a daughter of Queen Blanca I of Navarra was imprisoned in the tower by her father as punishment for refusing an arranged marriage.
