Almonacid Castle is a 12th-century Muslim fortress located on a hilltop in Vall de Almonacid near the Chico River, commanding impressive views across the Alto Palancia valley. The castle uniquely hosted Morabito warrior monks—the only Valencian castle where they resided—until their definitive expulsion in 1526 at the Battle of Espadán. Several walls and a distinctive tower of homage (keep) remain preserved as the castle's most characteristic features. The site offers accessible hiking with moderate difficulty and rewarding vistas from the summit, showcasing the strategic importance of this medieval fortress in regional history.
