Castillo de Ucero rises majestically on a rocky promontory on the Ucero River's bank in Soria province, commanding views across the valleys of the Lobos and Chico rivers. First documented in 1157 when Alfonso VII established settlements in the region, the fortress became an important fortress by 1212 under Juan González de Uzero, a knight from Las Navas de Tolosa. In the 15th century, Bishop Pedro de Montoya renovated this church-owned stronghold, which later became protected heritage. The castle's foundation sits on remains of a Celtiberian settlement, revealing continuous human occupation spanning from prehistory through medieval times.
