Castillo de Turégano sits on a hilltop just outside the town of Turégano in Segovia province, with origins tracing to Celtiberian settlements and medieval Arab influence. In the late 12th century, Bishop Pedro de Agén built the Romanesque church of San Miguel within the fortress, uniting religious and military functions. In 1471, Bishop Arias Dávila commissioned a fortress-palace expansion encompassing the existing church. Notably, the castle imprisoned Antonio Pérez, disgraced secretary to Philip II, in 1585. Declared a National Monument in 1931, Turégano represents a rare architectural fusion of fortress and sacred space.
