Fortaleza de San Lourenzo, built in 1671 by order of Mariana of Austria, stands as one of the Miño River's most impressive 17th-century defensive structures. This star-shaped granite fortress in Tomiño, Galicia, features a rectangular floor plan with four corner bastions, each originally equipped with three watchtowers, surrounded by a 10-20 metre moat crossed by a six-arch bridge. Positioned strategically across from the Portuguese Fort of São Francisco de Lovelhe, the fortress served to defend and control the natural border formed by the Miño River. Now designated as a Cultural Interest Asset, it has undergone significant restoration and remains an iconic symbol of the frontier's military heritage.
