Santa Bárbara Castle is a fortress perched on the crater rim of the Guanapay volcano near Teguise in Lanzarote's Canary Islands. Originally featuring a 14th-century tower built by Lancelotto Malocello, the castle was significantly modified after the 1586 pirate attack when engineer Leonardo Torriani redesigned its defenses. Now housing the Piracy Museum following renovations from 2019 to 2023, the castle connects to the historic town below via a secret tunnel historically used by islanders to evade pirates, offering visitors a dramatic hilltop setting with exhibits on maritime history.
