Castell de Tamarit is a medieval fortress and fortified village perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the Mediterranean on Costa Daurada in Tarragona province, Catalonia. Built by the medieval County of Barcelona in the 11th century as the southernmost castle in Barcelona's territory, it served a vital defensive role against Berber and Ottoman raids during the Reconquista. The complex includes not only the castle but also a well-preserved vila closa, or fortified village, with defensive walls especially intact on the western side. Exhibiting architectural evolution from Romanesque to Renaissance styles, the site has been thoughtfully preserved and now serves as an exclusive venue for weddings and special events, attracting visitors with its dramatic coastal setting and rich historical character.
