Castillo de Sot de Chera sits prominently on a rocky promontory overlooking the Sot River valley in Valencia province, commanding views of the surrounding settlement and landscape from its hilltop position. Originally an Islamic fortress, this medieval surveillance tower features multiple levels designed for distinct defensive functions: ground level served as refuge and food storage with remains of a cistern, middle levels housed lodging and defense systems, and the upper section formed the tower's fighting platform. Constructed from rammed earth and masonry with stone reinforcement, the castle preserves wall sections and rectangular tower remains with visible window openings and remnants of crenellations. Archaeological investigations have revealed Iberian and Muslim ceramics in the surrounding area plus underground tunnels and galleries in nearby homes that correspond to the fortification period. Classified as a Cultural Property of Interest since 2001, the castle represents an important medieval and Islamic heritage site.
