Castillo de Serón is a Nasrid fortress built in the 13th century, perched atop the highest point of Serón in Almería, commanding panoramic views across the Almanzora Valley toward the Sierra de las Estancias and Granada province. After centuries of strategic importance during Muslim rule, the castle fell to Castilian forces in December 1489 following the Reconquista and the capitulations of Purchena, with King Ferdinand the Catholic taking personal control. While only one original wall and fragments of wall paintings remain today, the site features a neo-Mudéjar Clock Tower from a later era, built atop an esplanade that once commanded medieval defenses.
