Castell i Fort de l'Estrella (Castle of the Star) crowns a prominent hilltop in Segorbe, dominating the Alto Palancia comarca of Castellón province. Human occupation of the site dates to around 1,500 B.C., with successive settlements by Iberians, Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, and Christians creating a layered defensive heritage. The fortress reached its architectural peak during the 15th century under Aragonese rule, notably serving as a residence for Queen María de Luna and King Martín the Humane. Though dismantled in the 18th century, ruins from later fortifications built during the Carlist Wars remain visible, illustrating the castle's enduring strategic importance across millennia.
